This is one of two schools which we support in the city of Karonga. St Mary’s is situated a few kilometres to the south of the city and is accessed by a rough road. The school campus is well-constructed and laid out. This is a girls’ boarding school which educates 590 girls across four Forms, with three streams per Form.
St Mary’s is owned and run by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Karonga.
Six girls have been supported at this school by the Lancashire West Methodist Circuit since 2021.
Mrs Martha Chizumila, previous Head Teacher, tells us about the school. The Mamie Martin Fund started supporting girls here in 2019. These girls are very poor and we are privileged to support their education.
See the video tab above or click here for an introduction by Remmie Kamanga, Education Co-ordinator of the Diocese of Karonga at the time we entered into partnership with the Diocese.
We also support girls at another Diocesan school – Kaseye Girls’ Secondary School in Chitipa, further north.
