Jean & Sue’s Lighthouses

as part of Mamie Martin Fund’s #Birthday30 challenge

Jean and/or Sue spotted 30 lighthouses across 3 countries

  • 01 Uni of Aberdeen Lighthouse Field Station. Jean writes: “Designed by Alan Stevenson in 1846 and now a Field Station, run by Aberdeen University. I have a theory that my gg grandfather, who eventually became a lighthouse keeper, once worked there as a joiner.
  • 08 & 09 Brownsman Island, Northumberland. Two lighthouse ruins (1800 and 1811), replaced by the Longstone – look closely and see the seals!
  • 10 Longstone lighthouse, Farne Islands, Northumberland. Home of Grace Darling, the lighthouse keeper’s daughter, famous for rescuing survivors from the 1838 wreck of the Forfarshire.
  • 11 The spire of Berwick on Tweed Town Hall served as the original landing light before a lighthouse was built.
