Bike2Malawi 2021

Let’s bike 10,679 miles to Malawi!

100 years after Mamie and Jack went to Malawi, we are recreating their journey by pooling our individual cycling distances. Read more about the original journey in our travel blog.

Total distance cycled: 1877 miles
13th June 2021: We’ve made it to Gibraltar!

Bike2Malawi is a collective effort, with individuals and groups cycling the distances of their choice on any kind of pedal-powered bike/trike, including exercise bikes. Between 3rd June and 3rd August, riders are riding their distances and contributing them to the pot. All you need to do is register, or register for one of our group rides, which means you are signed up for the main project too.

100 years after Mamie and Jack’s journey to Malawi, we are following in their footsteps.

As before, this project is free to enter and all riders will get a free fair-wear teeshirt. It is about fun and engagement. If we raise some money, that will be great, but it is not the primary focus. You may make a donation, set up your own fund-raising page, or just shout about us on social media. All such help is very welcome.

You can record your trips and any images and/or stories about it through this link, or by email to moira@mamiemartin.org .

If you’d like to add a bit of spice, African of course, to your target, why not select a segment or two? See the list drawn up by Bike2Malawi rider, Daphne.

As well as the main flexible ride, there are some group rides open for booking. Set up your own group ride if you wish and let us know about it so that we can give it a shout-out. All members of a group gide can contribute their miles and all members of a group ride are automatically signed up to Bike2Malawi and so can continue to contribute miles/kms to the target distance.
