Annual Review 2021-2022

2021-22 was another busy year for the Board of Trustees and for Mercy Sibande, our brilliant Country Director in Malawi.

While the girls are back to school, for some, their circumstances have worsened. The aftermath of the pandemic and the devaluation of the Kwacha have both led to an even greater need for support beyond the payment of school fees. This has meant more work for Mercy and a greater use of our R2L (Ready to Learn) discretionary fund.

But it has also been a very positive year. We have had amazing people take part in the many exciting fundraising activities. We have worked hard at improving our communication and we now have more involvement from our friends and colleagues in Malawi in our discussions and decision making.

The Trustees know that good governance has to underpin everything we do. This year we have been revisiting the Strategic Plan, now in its last year. Can it really be 5 years since we worked on our very first one? We have been looking back over those years to monitor how we’ve done and are now looking forward, with a new plan, to the next 5 years.
